A flight attendant's dignified and elegant makeup tips for both work and play [Chiaki Ozawa / Fashion & Beauty]

Dec 14, 2014

This is a series of interviews exploring what makes women shine in a variety of fields. Our 13th installment features Chiaki Ozawa, a flight attendant for ANA (All Nippon Airways) who also works in Customer Service & Product Services. With her beautiful, slender figure and perfect posture, we spoke to Ozawa about fashion and beauty.

--What kind of fashion do you prefer?

I usually choose a more formal look at work. I'm wearing pants today, but my go-to is a dress with a jacket. I'm not particularly tall, so I always wear high heels. I don't have any particular brand preferences; after checking out fashion magazines, I go into stores that catch my eye at my local shopping mall and choose my outfits intuitively (laughs). I'm drawn to navy clothing, which isn't as repetitive as black, and has a trendy feel this season.

--Do you have any daily habits you practice for beauty and health?

When it comes to skincare, I rely on applying plenty of moisturizing lotion. I use lotion packs every day, and even in the summer, I splash on toner until it's practically gone (lol). It wears off more than twice as quickly as lotions and other products. The toner I'm using now is Sekkisei, the same one I used in my 20s. I'm back to using it.

Also, when I touch up my makeup in the afternoon, I remove all makeup except around my eyes with a cleansing sheet, then do some skincare and reapply foundation. Simply layering foundation on top of my makeup quickly causes it to come off and smudge, so I thought I'd try just removing it. I found that it left a nice finish and made touch-ups easier than layering it on top. I also carry supplements with me like a talisman, and I'm currently taking about three types, including collagen and black vinegar.

--Do you have any beauty tips unique to flight attendants?

It's dry on board, so I pay particular attention to moisturizing. When traveling abroad, the local water may not suit your skin, so some people are so thorough that they bring bottled water with them and even use it to wash their face. Beauty topics are a common topic of conversation among flight attendants, and they often try out various overseas cosmetics and beauty salons they've heard about through word of mouth.

--Tell us about your makeup and beauty routine on your days off.

On my days off, I only wear sunscreen, foundation, and eye makeup. I don't wear blush or lipstick. Once every three weeks, I go to the nail salon or beauty salon on Saturdays. I usually wear solid-color nails, but before a long vacation, I enjoy getting art nails done.

■For this shoot, Nami Kadowaki of Isetan Mirror was in charge of makeup. Ozawa, who often focuses on her eyes, suggested a soft, feminine look with a "neat" feel, focusing on eye makeup that accentuates her striking eyes, so that she could easily incorporate it into her everyday makeup.

For her base makeup, I applied a thin layer of Lancôme BB cream, followed by Lancôme's new liquid foundation, which is highly moisturizing and is this season's most popular. She then lightly applied GIVENCY face powder with a brush, giving the skin a veil of fine powder. Another key point is to avoid a heavy look by finishing with only concealer and no foundation around the eyes.

She chose a cool grey shade for the eyeshadow, which tightens the eyes and creates a sharp impression, while her long, rounded eyebrows add a feminine touch. To match her blue striped shirt, she chose pink rose shades for her blush and lipstick, which have a hint of blue. The bright tones beautifully bring out Ozawa's positive aura. Main products used: Liquid foundation "Lancôme Teint Miracle Liquid #O-025", face powder "Givenchy Prisme Libre #1", concealer "Yves Saint Laurent Radiant Touch #2", eyeshadow "Dior 5 Couleurs #056", eyeliner "Isetan Mirror Beaute Eyeliner Pencil #01", blush "Chanel Joue Contrast #64", lipstick "Dior Rouge Dior Baume #488, #568" 【Profile of Ozawa Chiaki】Born in 1973 in Ibaraki Prefecture.
