On December 6th, Mitsui Fudosan announced the "New Hibiya Project," a redevelopment plan for the former Sanshin Building and Hibiya Mitsui Building sites in Yurakucho 1-chome, Tokyo. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2017.
The planned site is adjacent to Hibiya Park, theaters and cinemas such as the Nissay Theater, Takarazuka Theater, La Scala and Miyukiza, and hotels such as the Imperial Hotel Tokyo. It is also located at the junction of the world-famous Ginza district, the international business hub of the Otemachi, Marunouchi, and Yurakucho districts, and the Kasumigaseki district, home to many government offices. Mitsui Fudosan will leverage this location to evolve the Hibiya district into the second smart city following the Nihonbashi district, promoting urban development that contributes to Tokyo's urban revitalization.
In addition to the large-scale mixed-use building, primarily for offices and business facilities with the latest BCP capabilities, the planned site will be integrated with the open space within the project site and the adjacent Chiyoda Ward plaza. A 4,000-square-meter plaza space, tentatively named "Hibiya Gate Plaza," will be created to attract and host international entertainment events such as movies and plays. Barrier-free access will also be provided to connect both Hibiya Stations on the Hibiya and Chiyoda lines, and an underground plaza of approximately 1,200 square meters will also be developed.
