Canon Marketing Japan will release the compact mirrorless camera "EOS M2" as the latest addition to its "EOS M Series" digital SLR cameras on December 20th. Leading up to the release, a new TV commercial starring actress Yui Aragaki will begin airing on the 16th. The commercial was planned and directed by Chie Morimoto, who has worked on poster design for NHK's historical drama "E" and artwork for numerous artists, including Mr. Children. In keeping with the commercial's title, "Eternal Moment," Aragaki, skilled with her camera, captures fleeting moments, such as raindrops dripping down a window and tropical fish in an aquarium. To coincide with the release, the company is running an "EOS M2 Debut Campaign." All applicants who purchase an EOS M2 will receive a Traveler's Notebook featuring the product logo of designer stationery manufacturer Midori, and 20 lucky winners will receive a Boston bag from Tsuchiya Kaban Seisakusho. The EOS M2, with its compact, lightweight body that fits in the palm of your hand and features that allow even beginners to easily take photos with a blurred background, is designed to inspire people to embark on a "photographic journey."
The EOS M2 maintains the same high image quality as the EOS M while being approximately 24g lighter. It employs "Hybrid CMOS AF II," which enables the combined use of contrast AF and image-plane phase-difference AF over a wide area covering approximately 80% vertically and horizontally of the shooting screen, enabling focusing over a wider area approximately 2.3 times faster than previous models. It also comes equipped with wireless LAN, allowing remote operation such as downloading still images from a Wi-Fi-enabled smartphone.
