Designer Diane von Furstenberg was born in Belgium on December 31, 1946. After studying economics at the University of Geneva, she married Prince Egon von Furstenberg in 1969. She then moved to the United States and began designing women's wear in 1970. Her geometric wrap dress, released in 1973, became a huge hit, selling a total of 5 million pieces. Diane is considered "the most successful woman since Coco Chanel," and one of her wrap dresses is even on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. After a hiatus of over 10 years, she resumed design in 1997 and opened her flagship store, "Diane von Furstenberg," in New York in 2001. In 2005, she received an award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in recognition of her many years of achievement, and was subsequently elected president of the CFDA. In 2006, the brand opened stores in Belgium, France, and Minami-Aoyama, and is now sold in select shops in over 50 countries around the world.

Since 2012, the brand has collaborated with GapKids and babyGap, twice launching a girls' line for babies from newborn to 14 years old.
