KENZO's Spring/Summer 2014 collection was inspired by the ocean and underground music culture of California, home to creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon. The shimmering ocean is depicted through graphic hand-painted designs and sequin embroidery. Endangered fish are appliquéd all over jackets and dresses, and the hems of cropped shirts and cut-and-sew tops are cut off in a wave pattern. The silhouettes are sporty, with laser-cut jackets and straight-cut tank tops and miniskirts. Large slits in the backs of shirts and dresses flutter in the wind like sails. The collection also references Los Angeles' modern architecture with monochrome geometric designs, a mint green and beige color palette, and metal heel-strap sandals. Eyewear and earrings with photochromic lenses that change color in response to UV rays evoke the blue Earth.

At the show, speakers filled with water were lined up on the runway, creating splashes along with the music. At the end of them, a large waterfall appeared.

For this collection, Kenzo announced a partnership with the Blue Marine Foundation, which works to reduce overfishing and marine pollution. As the first step, the brand will release collaborative sweatshirts and T-shirts for both men and women, with a portion of the sales to be donated. They will be on sale from January 2014 at the brand's directly managed stores and official online shop.
