TeamLab projects a waterfall onto an Audi

Dec 27, 2013

teamLab is holding the "teamLab exhibit at Audi Forum Tokyo" at the Audi showroom in Harajuku, Tokyo. The exhibition runs until January 5, 2014. Admission is free. The exhibit features a digital installation featuring projection mapping on an Audi R8 sports car. Projected in 7K resolution, seven times the resolution of full HD, the image depicts an ultra-detailed, approximately 16-meter-long waterfall. The R8, resembling a rock, is recreated in 3D on a computer, and the movement of the water pouring down from upstream is physically calculated, resulting in an accurate simulation of the water's movement. Also on display is an interactive digital artwork titled "The World: Integrated, Divided, Repeating, Always Different," inspired by the square paintings of Ito Jakuchu, a prominent early modern Japanese painter. The exhibition also features teamLab's first DVD book, "Who is teamLab?", for sale at the venue. The book is themed around the thinking of cutting-edge art groups that are adding new pages to Japanese art history, and includes a conversation between art historian Yamashita Yuji and teamLab's representative Inoko Toshiyuki, as well as commentary on the works that teamLab has created. The accompanying DVD contains footage of all eight of teamLab's representative works. The price is 2,800 yen.
