New York-based illustrator Yoko Furusho's first picture book, "The Other Side of My Upside-Down World," is currently being exhibited at the Shibuya Scramble Pop-Up Stage B on the first floor of the West Building of Tokyu Toyoko Department Store. The event, "LITTLE CHRISTMAS STORY," is running until December 25th. This book explores the human heart—inside and outside, fiction and reality, weakness and strength—through poetic prose. It features fantastical illustrations with delicate lines and colors. The Tokyu Toyoko event features a Christmas-themed display filled with mushrooms and monsters, as well as collaborative items with jewelry brands Jellies and Turtle Forest, furniture designer Kenichi Tanaka, and New York brand Nina Nina New York. There will also be a signing session from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on the 14th.
Furusho will also be holding a reading, talk show, and signing session from 3:00 PM on the 15th at Brisa Libreria (5-10-17 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo).
Furusho was born and raised in Tokyo and moved to the United States after graduating from high school. After studying illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York, he began working as an artist/illustrator. After his first solo exhibition in Japan at LE DECO Gallery in Shibuya and his first solo exhibition in New York, "exhale," at H.P.France (destinationNY), he has exhibited his work in various galleries. He has also won awards from the Art Directors Club and other awards. He has collaborated with Maybelline New York and KEDS Shoes, and is active in the fields of advertising, magazines, and fashion. His picture books include "Ee Tokoro" and "Henachoko" (text by Kusunoki Shigenori, published by Gakken).
