■ "La collection gastronomique" by Tanaka Makiko
Currently based in Paris, France, contemporary artist Tanaka Makiko depicts a world that lies between fantasy and reality using a variety of techniques, including mechanical pencils, pencils, watercolors, pastels, and prints. This is her first collection of works. Shortly after moving to Paris, inspired by the various expressions of women she saw on the streets, she began painting one portrait a day as a daily routine. Gradually, her subjects expanded from "faces" to everyday objects, and when she added soup to her ceramic paintings, her series evolved into "food." Living in Paris, where different cultures mingle, she encounters fascinating ingredients and dishes. Driven by her overflowing imagination, she continues to paint daily, never tiring of it. Girls dancing on plates, women of various nationalities with expressive faces. Both of these paintings offer a glimpse into Makiko Tanaka's charming, carefree, beautiful, and generously unfolding world. A small exhibition of her work is currently being held at the NADiff Window Gallery in the NADiff Apartments. At the same time, Pearl Bookshop & Gallery in Nishihara, Shibuya Ward is holding an exhibition titled "La collection gastronomique," and Coolie's Creek restaurant in Shirokane, Minato Ward is holding an exhibition titled "Meli-Melo." Artist Tanaka is scheduled to be present at Pearl Bookshop & Gallery from 3:00 pm on the 9th. (Other dates the artist will be in the gallery will be updated regularly on her official website: tanakamakiko.com)
