Moncler Gamme Bleu's 2016-2017 Autumn/Winter collection was unveiled at Milan Men's Fashion Week on January 17th. Designer Thom Browne chose "camouflage" as the theme for this season.
All the looks in the collection featured a camouflage pattern in the same colors of gray, blue, red, and white. The models all wore balaclavas with the same pattern covering their faces, and even applied camouflage makeup around their eyes. After walking around the venue, the models retreated to a small room in the center of the stage, lit up with smoke and camouflage. For the finale, Thom Browne was absent, and the small room flashed with flashing lights, with confetti falling continuously over the models seated in a line. The collection is based on Moncler archive pieces and classic tailored pieces, which have always been the brand's foundation. However, unlike past seasons, it does not focus on a clear sporting theme like boxing, horse riding, or rowing. Because every piece is camouflage-patterned, the subtle design, materials, and details of each piece are obscured from the audience. According to a release issued after the show, each piece was crafted from a variety of materials, including cotton gabardine, corduroy, Donegal tweed, pinstripes, oil-coated cashmere, fur, and ultra-lightweight nylon, with a variety of finishes, including prints, jacquard, and intarsia. The choice of a single theme, Gamme Bleu, recognized by fashionistas as a high-end brand within the Moncler brand, may be the ultimate expression of the genius Thom Browne.
