Japan Duty Free GINZA, the first airport-style downtown duty-free store in Japan outside of Okinawa, will open on the 8th floor of the Mitsukoshi Ginza department store on January 27th.
Just like airport duty-free stores, Japan Duty Free GINZA is unique in that it is located in the city and is exempt from not only consumption tax but also customs, liquor tax, and tobacco tax. It is open to foreign visitors to Japan as well as Japanese air passengers traveling abroad. Another advantage is that all products must be collected at the departure airport (Haneda or Narita), allowing customers to enjoy hands-free shopping. The duty-free store, operated by Japan Duty Free Fa-So-La Mitsukoshi Isetan, was established with investments from Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd., Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Co., Ltd., and NAA Retailing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Narita International Airport. Based on the environmental design concept of "treating nature to Ginza and balancing yin and yang," the store is divided into five zones representing the sea, forest, hill, city, and village. Each zone will feature domestic and international cosmetics brands, luxury brands opening in a Japanese duty-free store for the first time, and watch maisons. The lineup of participating stores includes BOUCHERON, which will be opening its first store in a global duty-free store, as well as Valentino, Saint Laurent, Vacheron Constantin, Roger Dubuis, and ALBION, which will be opening their first store in a Japanese duty-free store. The duty-free store will also feature the "800 Hands Japanese Beauty" zone, showcasing works created by combining traditional Japanese craftsmanship with modern innovations. Four sections are available: "Tokyo Handicrafts," showcasing items created with the delicate traditional techniques of Tokyo's renowned artisans; "Good Design Award-winning Products," "Traditional Crafts," and "Industrial Products." Regarding the opening, Heiichi Yamamoto, Representative Director of Japan Duty-Free Fa-So-La Mitsukoshi Isetan, said, "To provide the ultimate joy to travelers from around the world, we want to offer our heartfelt hospitality in a sophisticated environment where Japanese tradition and innovation coexist, creating memories that linger in their hearts." Yasuhide Yonemoto, Executive Director of Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd., added, "We expect the duty-free store to attract 2,000 customers per day."
