Onitsuka Tiger, a brand developed by ASICS, will be selling three collaborative shoes with Kansai Yamamoto at its flagship stores and the Isetan Shinjuku Men's Building from the end of March 2014.
These shoes were unveiled at the "Fashion in Motion Kansai Yamamoto" show held at London's Victoria and Albert Museum in November.
This collaboration was realized at Kansai's request, as he often uses tigers and dragons as motifs, after seeing the brand's symbolic tiger at the Onitsuka Tiger London flagship store. This is the first collaboration between Onitsuka Tiger and Kansai Yamamoto.
The shoes featured in the show were Onitsuka Tiger's signature "MEXICO 66 DELUXE" and "MEXICO MID RUNNER DELUXE." The collection features special digital prints of primary yellow and green, bird feathers, leopard print, and a patchwork of kimono from the Meiji to early Showa periods, all of which were inspired by Kansai's visit to Papua New Guinea. Kansai also appeared wearing COLORADO EIGHTY-FIVE AP shoes made from metallic materials. The Mexico 66 Deluxe (low-top) is priced at ¥25,200 (excluding tax), while the Mexico Mid Runner Deluxe (high-top) is priced at ¥27,300 (excluding tax). For his next project, Kansai Yamamoto is currently planning a project in Istanbul next year. He plans to continue working on events that contribute to society in the fields of art, culture, and sports, going beyond fashion.
