On October 22, 2016, the final day of Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO 2017 S/S, MIKIO SAKABE presented his 2017 Spring/Summer collection at Miyashita Park in Shibuya. The show marked the brand's 10th anniversary, and was a huge success, with admission restrictions in place. The venue, which has given birth to countless street cultures, was lit up by a large crane as the show began. A record 50 looks graced the outdoor stage.

The first look featured a model wearing a white shirt and pants. The beautifully tailored shirt stood out, contrasted with sweatpants, and London boots lavishly decorated with ribbons. The shoes, reminiscent of those worn by 70s glam rocker David Bowie, were eye-catching. Next, models clad in shirts, vests, and formal jackets, sporting 80s Madonna-esque makeup and Seiko-chan haircuts, appeared one after another, creating a sense of "what era is this?" The nonstop DJ mix playing in the background is unmistakably the music of this era. Undaunted by the waves of sound, shoulder pads, huge puff sleeves, pants with belts worn low above the waist, and bodycon attire—styles that capture the essence of nostalgic trends that once dominated Shibuya and Harajuku—passed before our eyes. "The shapes of styles from the '70s, '80s, and '90s are difficult to blend together, so I wanted to express the beauty of blending," explains designer Sakabe. In a fashion industry where even cutting-edge trends become obsolete within six months, this collection tackles the grand question of "is there anything eternal?" Those who attended the show likely overlapped their own memories (favorite clothes, idol stars, music, and cities) with the scenery they saw in the collection. Regarding this collection, Sakabe commented, "In Japan, designers work with materials, but there are not many who specialize in shapes, so I focused on shapes and created many formal jackets and shirts that easily express the changes of the times. Unlike Europe, Japan does not have a history of fashion, so I wanted to be conscious of Japan's unique culture and try things that no one else has done before." Before we could even bask in the afterglow of the show, Sakabe's eyes were already fixed on the future.
