Online shopping site "Mitsukai Tokyo" makes its first foray into the Kansai region, opening a limited-time shop at Umeda OPA

May 2, 2013

Umeda OPA opened on April 19th through 21st, hosting a three-day "Night Market" event that was open until 10pm. Six brands set up shop in the Fashion Food Stall Village, but one that particularly caught the eye was "Mitsukai Osaka by Mitsukai Tokyo." Mitsukai Tokyo, an online shopping site operated by High Ride, has made its Kansai debut, changing its name to "Osaka" and opening a brick-and-mortar store. The site's appeal lies in its willingness to sell anything buyers find interesting, including sundries, clothing, books, stationery, and housing. In addition to sundries and stationery, the Osaka store carried clothing from Anrealage, shoes and business card holders from Kagari Yusuke. Mitsukai Tokyo's unique features include its wide selection of one-of-a-kind items by artists and designers, as well as a wide range of prices, from low- to high-end. The items are displayed on the site without being categorized, and although sold-out items are marked as "sold out," they remain listed. Another notable feature is the length of the product descriptions, which are written in a way that is thorough and focused on conveying the appeal of the products. Apparently, there are nearly three times as many characters as on a regular online shopping site, and many artists and designers use it as an archive for their own work.

Highride explains, "We created this site with the aim of getting people to come and shop without a specific purpose. We devised ways to convey the appeal of our products to people who weren't specifically shopping, and that's how we arrived at our current style."
