Umeda Opa, H&M, and ABC Mart Grand Stage open simultaneously in the same building. Competition intensifies for young women's fashion

Apr 19, 2013

On April 19th, Umeda OPA, H&M Umeda, and ABC Mart Grand Stage opened simultaneously on the former site of Hankyu Ings in Umeda. This is an unusual arrangement: Umeda OPA occupies the first and second basement floors of the former Hankyu Ings mall, H&M occupies the first through third floors, and ABC Mart occupies the first and second floors.

H&M's total sales floor area is 2,000 square meters across three floors, with women's items on the first and second floors and women's, men's, and children's items on the third floor. ABC Mart Grand Stage is the first large-scale street-level store in the Kansai region, with men's business and women's items on the first floor and Nike, Adidas, Vans, and other brands on the second floor. Nike and Adidas on the second floor have their own corners, selling not only sneakers but also apparel.

Umeda OPA has a total sales floor area of 3,200 square meters across two floors, the first and second basements. Targeting young women, the mall will offer a mixed casual look with fashion brands offering a variety of styles, including rock, mode, girly, and cool. Four brands, "OMG," "Absol," "Ciel by Lip Service," and "Virtu & Weiss," will be making their Japan debut, while five brands, "Visalia," "Womania," "Daisy Claire," and "Charles & Keith," will be making their Kansai debut. "Loki" will be making its Osaka debut, and "EMODA" will be the largest store in Japan. Among these, Singaporean shoe and bag brand "Charles & Keith" is attracting attention as its third store in Japan. Additionally, a limited-time night market will be held over the three-day opening days from the 19th to the 21st, running until 10 p.m. Six brands, including "Nico Panda" by Nicola Formichetti and "Mitsubai Osaka by Mitsubai Tokyo," will be setting up shop as a pop-up fashion stall village.

Across the street from Umeda OPA is EST1, a long-established Osaka commercial facility that houses a collection of young women's brands, and has been in business for many years. Although synergistic effects can be expected, fierce competition is also expected to unfold.
