On the 1st, Kintetsu Department Store announced that the opening date for the Abeno Harukas Kintetsu Main Store Tower Building, which will be located within the Abeno Harukas complex scheduled to open next spring, has been set for June 13th of this year. After the Tower Building opens first, the current Kintetsu Abeno store will be gradually renovated. A portion of the building will open in the fall as the Abeno Harukas Kintetsu Main Store Wing Building, with the grand opening of the entire Abeno Harukas Kintetsu Main Store, including the Wing Building, scheduled for spring 2014. Abeno Harukas is a 300-meter-tall skyscraper with a total floor area of 212,000 square meters. It has 60 floors above ground and five below, with the Tower Building occupying the second basement floor through the 14th floor above ground. The Tower Building's commercial floor area is 57,000 square meters. When combined with the wing building, which has an area of 43,000 square meters, the total area will reach 100,000 square meters, making it the largest standalone department store in Japan.
The store concept of Abeno Harukas Kintetsu Main Store is a "town-like space" where encounters with things, experiences, and people add color to life. Aiming to be a full-target store, the floor area ratio for department store and specialty stores has been set at 60%:40%, and aiming to be a time-spending store, the floor area ratio for merchandise and non-merchandise stores has been set at 75%:25%. The spatial design was overseen by Mamiya Yoshihiko of Infix.
A major feature of the tower building is its new zoning, which aims to combine a department store and specialty stores. The floor layout is as follows: "Abeno Food City," boasting one of the largest floor areas in the Kansai region, occupies the first and second basement floors; "Trend Court," centered around select shops opening in a department store for the first time, on the third floor; "Kintetsu Men's," based on the concept of a place for men, on the sixth and seventh floors; "Kintetsu Living," offering rich life-style interiors, on the ninth and tenth floors; and "Abeno Harukas Dining," with 44 stores and 2,800 seats, on the 12th to 14th floors.
Kintetsu Department Store has announced sales targets of 104 billion yen for fiscal 2013 and 145 billion yen for fiscal 2014 after the grand opening of the entire building. The store expects to attract 45 million customers per year.
