To celebrate the release of "Bill Cunningham & New York," a documentary film about New York fashion photographer Bill Cunningham, Sogo & Seibu is holding a fashion snap contest on Facebook.
A photo shoot event is also planned at the Seibu Shibuya store. Both events have a dress code of four "fruit colors": yellow, green, pink, and orange.
The Facebook snap contest accepts snaps on a dedicated page until 11:59 PM on May 27. The photos will be displayed in the Seibu Shibuya store's window from May 14 to 20, and winning works will also be featured in the New York Times International Herald Tribune.
At the Seibu Shibuya snap event, students from the Vantan Design Institute's photography department will photograph participants. The resulting photos will be printed on special flyers and given to participants. The event will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on May 16th and 17th, and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on May 18th, at a special venue at the entrance to Building A. Participation is free, with a limit of 50 people per day.
At 84 years old, Bill is still an active street fashion photographer, capturing street fashion on the streets of New York for over 50 years. He has been a long-time contributor to the New York Times' popular fashion column "ON THE STREET" and social column "EVENING HOURS," and has continued to influence the fashion industry. "Bill Cunningham & New York," which took 10 years to complete and explores his private life, which is unknown even to his closest industry insiders, will be released at Shinjuku Wald 9 and other theaters nationwide from May 18th.
