[SMALL TALK by Shinichi Osawa] post#2

May 1, 2013

Hello, I'm Shinichi Osawa.
I'd like to talk a little about music and fashion.
When I discovered music and became immersed in UK new wave and post-punk, I also discovered clothing.
So, for me, music and fashion are inseparable.
I remember it was on the eve of the DC brand movement, and before the bubble era. Because that was the kind of music I liked, I didn't have any particular style for fashion. In fact, from the perspective of new wave, chasing styles and trends seemed far removed from the spirit of fashion. I was a precocious boy with such grandiose thoughts.
But I also loved DC brands, and I would frequently visit boutiques like COMME des GARÇONS and Y's, clutching my meager part-time job earnings.
The store clerks back then were far more intimidating than they are now, and the HOMME staff were extremely intimidating. They wore oversized dark suits, simple white shirts, no ties, and beards. They somewhat resembled the Lounge Lizards in the photo.
And then there was vintage clothing; I can't talk about the fashion of that era without mentioning it.
There was also a DEPT store in Kyoto, and I often went there to look for fashion items based on the record covers of my favorite artists.
By the way, if you asked me who the most fashionable musician of the '80s was, I'd definitely say Paul Weller.
The mod style of The Jam was cool, but the stylishness of the band after they transitioned to The Style Council captured the hearts of young Popeyes of the time.

"Cafe Bleu," "Our favorite shop," "Confessions of a pop group," and more. Just looking at the album covers is enough to make you say "I love him."

The Levi's 501 white shoes he often wore were so popular that they sold out at BEAMS, which had just opened in the Kansai region.
