LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, which works to protect and nurture cultural heritage and creative endeavors in France and Europe, announced its support for the digital restoration of the French film "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg." Directed by Jacques Demy and starring Catherine Deneuve, this 1963 musical film won the Palme d'Or, the highest award at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival, and was nominated for five Academy Awards. It remains a timeless masterpiece beloved worldwide, and the music used in the film and Deneuve's 1960s fashion have continued to influence many fashion designers and creators. This project, which involves converting the film to a digital format and using new preservation technology, has made it possible to preserve the film's image and audio quality without any degradation. LVMH supports this project together with the Cannes Film Festival, the city of Cherbourg, and the Lower Normandy region. Crowdfunding, a method of raising funds from an unspecified number of people via the internet, is also being used to carry out the project. The restored film will be released in cinemas in France on June 19th and will also be screened in cinemas around the world. It will also be entered in the Cannes Classics section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.

In addition, a Jacques Demy retrospective is being held at the Cinemathèque Française in Paris from April 10th to August 4th, showcasing Demy's worldview and works.
