Artist and Work Information

[1st Floor] Suzuki Motomasa
Born in Shizuoka in 1981. Graduated from the Sculpture Department of Musashino Art University in 2004. He primarily creates wood carvings, but also develops lightbox photography. In 2017, he received the VOCA Encouragement Award at the VOCA Awards 2017. Suzuki's solo exhibition "The Future of Creation: 13th Suzuki Motoma Exhibition MOD," supervised by art critic Toshio Shimizu, was held at LIXIL Gallery (Tokyo) in 2017. In 2018, he participated in the artist-in-residence show "Unfinished Garden, Full Movement" held at Aomori Contemporary Art Centre (ACAC), Aomori Public University. In 2016, he held a solo exhibition "wall, roof, window" at TSCA.

Suzuki Motoma "World is Yours" (2010)
Suzuki composes and reconstructs parts of numerous wooden boxes, signs, and landscapes that seem familiar yet unfamiliar. The subjects that Suzuki deals with are things that we understand to be present in our daily lives, but in reality we only understand them intuitively. In an age where an infinite number of images can be easily obtained from the cloud on the internet, Suzuki personally selects each one with his own eyes and slowly transforms them into wood carvings. While feeling his own limitations, he breaks out of his shell and expands into an even more limitless world.

[2nd Floor] Iinuma Hideki
Sculptor. Born in Nagano Prefecture in 1975. Lives in Tokyo. Graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Nantes, France in 2003. His major exhibitions include "Digital Conversion of Her into Natural Wood," Canon Digital House Ginza (Tokyo) in 2019, "Fighting Goddess Tachi," Matsumoto City Museum of Art (Nagano) in 2016, and the Ernst Parlach Prize Exhibition (Germany) in 2005.

Iinuma's sculptures are carved from a single piece of wood, and while they have a rough outline that allows the grain of the wood to be seen, You can feel the real "now" of women living in the midst of modern consumer society. *The exhibition will consist of five wood sculptures of different sizes centered around the photographic works. [4th Floor] Kawata Satoshi Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1987. Exploring a unique creative method that blends traditional painting techniques with modern formative materials, Kawata gathers motifs from events in the local community and changes in the environment of daily life, presenting the relationship between everyday life, architecture, and cities through murals, paintings, and installations. In 2013, he graduated from the Kyoto City University of Arts Graduate School of Fine Arts, Department of Painting (Oil Painting). In 2019, he received the Kyoto City Art Newcomer Award for 2018. Major exhibitions include "Slow Culture" at Kyoto City University of Arts Gallery @KCUA (Kyoto) in 2021, "TOKYO MIDTOWN AWARD 2020" at Tokyo Midtown Plaza B1 (Tokyo) in 2021, "Celebration - Polish Contemporary Art from Japan" at Poznan Szczecin (Kyoto) in 2019, "The City and Its Uncertain Walls..." at Amalove Art Lab (Hyogo) in 2019, "Pulling Down" at A4 Art Museum (Chengdu, China) in 2018, and the solo exhibition "Open Room" at Art Court Gallery (Osaka) in 2018.

When I was a student, I sometimes worked part-time at a department store, rearranging the event space. While the interior of the store was decorated with glamorous spaces to entice customers, we would move around the back of the store. I remember feeling daunted by the drab space where the scenery was the same no matter where we went. Obviously, there's no need for glamour in an efficient space where you just put your luggage down and pass through. Therefore, this time, while confirming the sensibility of that time, we will be presenting an installation that expresses the temptations and coldness of everyday life by entrusting the splendor of the motif on the front and creating a temporary wall structure on the back as a foundation.

[6th Floor] Otaguro Emi
Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1980. After graduating from the Department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo Zokei University, majoring in Conceptual Expression Studies, she completed a Master's degree in Oil Painting at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School. Since March 2019, she has been based in Berlin as a recipient of the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Overseas Training Program for Emerging Artists. She currently resides in Aichi Prefecture. His major exhibitions include "DOMANI: Exhibition of Tomorrow 2021" at the National Art Center, Tokyo (Tokyo) in 2021, his solo exhibition "MESA" at Künstlerhaus Bethanian (Berlin, Germany) in 2020, "MAT, Nagoya Studio Project vol. 6" at Minatomachi POTLUCK BUILDING (Aichi) in 2020, his solo exhibition "spot" at KAYOKOYUKI (Tokyo) in 2017, "THE ECHO" at Takasaki City Gallery (Gunma) in 2016, and his solo exhibition "project N 55" at Opera City Art Gallery (Tokyo) in 2014. He has also won the Grand Prix at the ALLOTMENT Travel Award 2016 and Art Award Tokyo 2008.

This sculpture is made from ceramic, that is, earth. The act of recreating the artificial motif of gum using natural material is also an idea that expresses the relationship between nature and humanity, two points that are both the most distant and yet very close on the same line: contradictions and coexistence in the world. For this exhibition, multiple ceramic works will be combined and presented as a flat composition installation on a square display stand.
