Actor Dennis Hopper was born in the United States on May 17, 1936. He is also known for his work as an artist.

He gained attention for his roles in "Rebel Without a Cause" (1955) and "Giant" (1956), starring James Dean, but he frequently encountered trouble in Hollywood and moved to New York. He later directed, wrote, and starred in "Easy Rider" in 1969, earning rave reviews.

He has visited Japan several times, and in 1991 he appeared as a model at the COMME des GARÇONS fashion show in Tokyo, alongside British actor Julian Sands, American actor Matt Dillon, and saxophonist John Lurie.

He was also active in the art field as a painter and photographer, and his work has been exhibited at museums such as the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. In 1989, a "Dennis Hopper Photography Exhibition" was held in Japan.

He was also known as an art collector, and after his death on May 29, 2010, at the age of 74, 300 pieces of art and other works that Dennis owned were auctioned in 2011. One of the most notable pieces was a portrait of Mao Zedong by Andy Warhol, into which Dennis had shot two bullets, which fetched a price of $302,500 (approximately 25 million yen at the time).
