Film director and producer Tom Tykwer was born on May 23, 1965, in Germany.

He made his feature film directorial debut with "The Passion of the Virgin Mary" in 1993. In 1998, he not only directed but also wrote the screenplay and composed the music for "Run Lola Run," which achieved both commercial and critical success. Furthermore, in 2006, "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer," starring Ben Whishaw, attracted attention for its shocking story and visuals.

His latest work, "Cloud Atlas," was released in March of this year. It was co-written with the Wachowski siblings, known for the "Matrix" trilogy, and features an all-star cast including Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.
