Asian beauties Nanako Matsushima and Yoko Maki shine in gorgeous dresses at Cannes

May 26, 2013

This year's Cannes Film Festival featured three Asian filmmakers on the jury: two-time award-winning director Naomi Kawase, Taiwanese Oscar-winning director Ang Lee, and Indian actress Vidya Balan. Films from Asia, including Japan, Korea, and China, also received generally favorable reviews. Kawase, along with Japanese actresses Nanako Matsushima, Yoko Maki, and Machiko Ono, also appeared on the red carpet in stunning dresses. Nanako Matsushima, who starred in Takashi Miike's "The Paper Shield," wore a Dolce & Gabbana gown and Vancleef & Arpels earrings and bracelet. Her lavish diamond-studded jewelry underscored her presence as a popular Japanese actress. Asian beauty and actress Zhang Ziyi, who served as a jury member for the "Un Certain Regard" category for the third time, appeared on the red carpet on the first day in a silver and black dress by Carolina Herrera. Her gorgeous necklace was by Chanel and her clutch bag was by Jimmy Choo. She also wore a Chanel couture dress at the premiere of "Only God Forgives" on the 22nd. Another Asian star worth noting is designer Yiqing Yin, who designed a dress for Audrey Tautou, who hosted the opening ceremony on the 15th. Yiqing is originally from China and sought political asylum in France at the age of four with her father, who was involved in the Tiananmen Square incident. While studying at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, he won the Grand Prix at a fashion competition in Paris in 2009. He held his first runway show in 2011 and has attracted attention for his style, which makes extensive use of smocking.
