"France Exhibition" opens at Shinjuku Isetan! A dream collaboration between Paris's most notable butcher and Paris's best bakery

Apr 12, 2017

To coincide with the 12th annual "French Week," which kicked off on each floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building and Men's Building, a "French Exhibition" opened in the event hall on the 6th and 7th floors of the Main Building.

The French are straightforward people who enjoy life to the fullest. Taking inspiration from this lifestyle, this year's "French Week" is themed around "Tips for Living a Spiritually Rich Life," and features a lineup of clothing, food, and housing items that offer hints for living comfortably.

In the event hall on the 6th floor of the Main Building, visitors can experience the aroma of freshly baked bread, jars filled with terrines and jams, market-style vegetable displays, and an eating space where they can sip cider with tarte flambée and galettes. Experience charcuterie, bread, cheese, wine, desserts, and more, as if touring various parts of France.

The highlight is the collaboration between Christophe Vasseur of Du Pain et Des Idées, one of Paris's top boulangers, and Gilles Verot of Maison Verot, one of Paris's three great butchers. Only 200 pieces of "Jambon-Bourguignon" (580 yen per piece, tax included) and "Pain des Amis" (491 yen per slice, tax included) will be sold each day, and can only be enjoyed here.

In addition, "Maison Verot x Metzgerei Kusuda", a collaboration between Gilles Verot and Hirohiko Kusuda of Ashiya's famous bread shop Metzgerei Kusuda, will allow you to experience the taste of a faithful reproduction of the Verot family recipes. "Pâté Chaud" (1,080 yen/100g, tax included), a warm pâté made with pork or chicken liver and roasted apples, will be available in limited quantities of 300 per day. Additionally, Gilles Verot and Christophe Vasseur will be present from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM from April 12th to 16th, and Hirohiko Kusuda will be present from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM from April 12th to 18th (until 3:00 PM on the 18th). The event space on the 7th floor of the main building will also feature French-made "garçon aprons" (4,320 yen, tax included) and tea towels (2,970 yen, tax included) from Tissage Moutet, based in southwestern France, and French-made shoes (starting from 6,264 yen, tax included) from ART OF SOULE, known for its espadrilles. This lineup offers an opportunity to experience artisanal craftsmanship and experience the art of everyday life. The "France Exhibition" will run until 3:00 p.m. on April 18th.
