Dover Street Market Ginza (DSMG) is hosting an installation by Viennese jewelry brand Florian, titled "Best of 10 Years of Florian Jewelry," until October 10th. A giant Florian necklace hangs from the neck of an elephant at the entrance to the Elephant Space on the first floor. Surrounding it and in the Golden Room, DSMG-designed fixtures display Florian's archive collection spanning the past 10 years, limited-edition anniversary jewelry, and new releases. "This is the first time we've displayed both archive and new pieces side-by-side," said designer Florian Ladstaetter, who visited Japan for the event. "I worked with the DSMG team to come up with the exhibit, and I'm pleased that we were able to fully express the brand's worldview. I met Kawakubo quite some time ago, but when I first met her at her London showroom, I thought she was someone whose selections were unique."
The jewelry he designs is created by freely mixing a variety of materials, including metal, natural stones, and plastic. Many of his designs are unisex, and recently men have been choosing his jewelry as an accessory to pair with their suits.
"My inspiration comes from all sorts of things around me. I'm often influenced by art and design, such as Viennese interior designer José Hoffmann. I also find the way the faces of people and animals in Japanese manga are drawn interesting. The idea of Purikura, where you fit your face into the shape of a character's face, is very interesting as it makes me think about what identity is," he says.
