A DEGREE FAHRENHEIT unveiled its Spring/Summer 2014 collection on October 15th. Designer Yu Amagi's theme was "Volatilization at 1652 degrees Fahrenheit (900 degrees Celsius)," and expressed the hardness and warmth of binchotan charcoal, which is produced by removing the volatile components at a high temperature of 900 degrees during carbonization.
The show began with a model wearing an abaya, the traditional Islamic dress. When the seventh model removed her abaya, she revealed an orange one-shoulder dress decorated with ruffles.
The collection continued with a variety of orange designs, primarily featuring dresses. These included pieces with draped backs, body-conscious silhouettes with asymmetrical ruffles, and designs that combined a dress with a shawl. Many silhouettes featured loose backs. The garments swayed gently in the breeze. Flares, drapes, and flame prints were often seen, evoking the flickering flames of carbonization. "The strictness and rigidity of the Islamic world, combined with the heat and warmth that exist within it, were expressed through the flares," said Amatsu.
Four men's pieces were featured this time. Amatsu commented, "This is the first time we've released a men's collection since our debut. As a brand specializing in shirts and trench coats, we'd like to launch this spring/summer collection and then fully launch in the fall/winter season."
The sofa on stage was a collaboration with Kairos, a new brand debuting in March 2014 by Minerva, a high-end custom furniture manufacturer in Japan that also makes chairs for the Imperial Household Agency.
