Nov 6, 2021
In our series, "From Cities: Longing for Cities Around the World," we bring you the latest local information on cities around the world, including Paris, Milan, New York, etc., notable addresses, and authentic city snaps! We'll be sending you these for a while, hoping to visit these places once we're able to travel abroad freely again in the near future.

In our 21st installment, we bring you Halloween snaps from the streets of New York. Last year, most Halloween-related events were canceled due to the pandemic, so this year marks the first time they've been held in two years! They've returned to their usual scale. It was exciting to see both children and adults having so much fun.

Every year at the end of October, Halloween events are held all over New York. The main event is the New York Village Halloween Parade, held on Halloween day itself. Everyone dresses up in their own costume and parades through Manhattan at night with many other participants. It is one of the largest parades in the United States. Incidentally, anyone can participate in the parade for free as long as they are wearing a costume. At one point, there were concerns that the parade would not be able to continue due to a lack of funds, but this year it was able to go ahead thanks to donations from local residents. This shows just how much loved this peaceful event is by the locals.

Halloween in New York is also full of popular Netflix characters!

The Korean drama "Squid Game," which caused a huge sensation on Netflix this fall, is also hugely popular in New York! Costumes like the green tracksuits and pink jumpsuits featured in the drama were spotted everywhere. This family particularly caught our eye. The kids dressed as frontmen are adorable, along with the sisters dressed as No. 067 (Saebyeok), No. 240 (Jiyeon), and No. 212 (Minyo).

We encountered this high-energy foursome inspired by the Netflix drama "Bridgerton," set in 19th-century London! From their costumes to their hair and makeup, you can really sense each of their individual personalities and personal touches, which is wonderful. The fact that all four of them are wearing sneakers also conveys their friendly atmosphere, making us happy too.

We caught Princess Diana eating at a restaurant! She looked so natural that we asked her, "Could that be Diana?" and she happily agreed to be photographed, saying, "I'm so glad you recognized me!" The Netflix drama series "The Crown," which depicts the life of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, is also hugely popular in the US. This model skillfully recreates the aura of Emma Corrin, who played Princess Diana in Season 4, which began airing at the end of last year.

When it comes to classic movie characters, it's important to pay attention to the details and "become" them!

We discovered the Grady sisters, twins from the 1980 horror classic "The Shining." Not only are their costumes synchronized, but their hair, makeup, posing, and even their expressionless faces are perfectly synchronized! The axe stuck in their heads is quite surreal, but this one is a headband. It would be terrifying to encounter them after dark.

This is the lovely couple, Leon and Matilda, from the 1994 action blockbuster film "Léon." As the characters are set in New York, they fit perfectly into the cityscape. The fine details of their costumes and the fact that they are holding a potted plant are beautifully recreated.

Balloon costumes are best enjoyed with family and friends!

This is a family dressed up in a "pizza restaurant" theme. Each member has a different role, but their sense of unity is wonderful. I couldn't take my eyes off the child's expression, which contrasted sharply with the enthusiastic father.

A duo dressed in matching flamingo balloon costumes. They were high-energy and couldn't stop laughing. It even gave us energy.

We also spotted two people dressed in cute pink pig balloon costumes. We saw a wide variety of balloon costumes in New York. It would be fun to wear matching outfits with everyone!

What did you think of these Halloween snaps from New York? When we can travel abroad again without any worries, be sure to take part in some of New York's Halloween events.
