Christian Haas's traditional German glass works on display at Lyra Tokyo

Oct 23, 2013

Aoyama concept shop LAILA TOKYO will be holding an exhibition of German designer Christian Haas's work from the 26th, coinciding with Autumn Design Week. The exhibition will feature new glass series from ROPES, the label Haas founded in 2011, and Theresienthal, a traditional German glass brand. The exhibition will feature ROPES, a one-of-a-kind piece handmade using energy-efficient techniques with a soft appearance and textile feel, as well as PLANET EARTH, an art glass collection inspired by Haas's philosophical aphorisms and expressing his ideas through form and color. Haas himself will be visiting Japan during the exhibition, and a reception will be held on the 2nd at 6:00 PM. Haas was born in Erlangen, Germany in 1974. He opened his own studio in 2000 and served as creative director for the German crystal brand Nachtmann. In 2007, he opened his own studio in Paris and is currently based there.

This exhibition is the first in the irregular project "FRONT#" by Lyra Tokyo, which introduces artists, designers, and artisans who create works based on traditional culture and techniques, regardless of genre, and who seek to shape the future with their aesthetic sensibilities, as well as their works.
