Architect and designer Charlotte Perriand was born on October 24, 1903, in Paris, France. Her father was a men's suit cutter and her mother a women's suit tailor. In 1926, she graduated from the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and began exhibiting furniture. Her work "Bar in the Attic" (1927) was highly acclaimed, leading to her joining the atelier of architect Le Corbusier. She began collaborating with Corbusier and his nephew, Pierre Jeanneret. In 1937, she left Corbusier's studio to go independent. In 1940, recommended by her atelier colleague Junzo Sakakura, she first came to Japan as a "Crafts Guidance Advisor" for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. From around 1942, she was tasked with improving and teaching craft products for overseas markets, and traveled around Japan with Sori Yanagi. In 1946, she returned to Paris and began working with Le Corbusier again on projects such as the implementation of his housing complex.

Her involvement with Japan continued, and in 1959 she designed the Air France Tokyo office and in 1966 the Japanese ambassador's residence in Paris. She also exhibited a "Tea Room" at the Paris Japan Cultural Festival held at the Piazza square of UNESCO's Paris headquarters, which was her last work before her death. She passed away in Paris in 1999.

Last month, Louis Vuitton's immersive exhibition "Timeless Muses" displayed architectural models and other items showcasing the women who inspired its products and collections.
