A re-creation of contemporary artist Yasumasa Morimura's debut solo exhibition, "Rembrandt's Room," held at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Shinagawa, Tokyo, will open on the 11th. Morimura has garnered international acclaim for his self-portraits, in which he "becomes" characters or actresses from famous paintings. He will serve as artistic director for next year's Yokohama Triennale 2014. This exhibition will feature a recreation of all of the works shown in "Rembrandt's Room" and acquired by the museum. Morimura focuses on the painter Rembrandt, who left behind a vast number of self-portraits. He portrays Rembrandt himself, his beloved elderly mother, his beloved son, his young and prosperous wife, and the mistress who became his companion after his wife's death, exploring issues relevant to modern society, such as the light and darkness of life.
>
In addition, "Rondo," a unique permanent installation that transforms the museum's toilets into artworks, will be re-opening in a new look to coincide with the exhibition.
