
Actor Hugh Jackman was born on October 12, 1968, in Sydney, Australia. He discovered his passion for acting while taking a drama class at the University of Technology Sydney, and decided to pursue a career as an actor. After graduating, he continued his acting career while working as a physical education assistant at a British school. He continued his acting studies at Edith Cowan University's Western Australian School of Dramatic Arts. After graduating in 1994, he appeared in television dramas and stage productions. His performance as Carl in the 1998 play "Oklahoma!" earned him a Laurence Olivier Award nomination, earning him worldwide fame. He was also chosen to play Wolverine in the 2000 film "X-Men," which became a huge hit upon its release. He has since appeared in six films as Wolverine, including the series and spin-offs. He has appeared in many hit films, including "New York Lovers" in 2001, "The Prestige" in 2006, and "Australia" in 2008, and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his role as Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables" in 2012.
Aside from acting, he is also active in many fields, producing films with his own production company and hosting the Tony Awards and the Academy Awards.
In his private life, he married actress Deborra-Lee Furness, with whom he co-starred in a TV drama, in April 1996. They currently have two adopted children, a boy and a girl. He is also known as a great Japanophile, and often visits Japan to promote his films, as well as privately with his family.
