Talk show between Masanobu Sugatsuke, Editor-in-Chief of GINZA, and Editor-in-Chief of IMA to be held at Aosando Art Fair

Oct 22, 2013

On October 25th, at the art event "Aosando Art Fair," FASHION HEADLINE will hold a talk event titled "The Future of Photography: Exploring the Present State of Editorial and Art" starting at 7:30 PM. Participants include editor Masanobu Sugatsuke, GINZA Editor-in-Chief Toshiko Nakajima, and IMA Editorial Director Mutsuko Ota. The event will be held at hpgrp Gallery Tokyo. The event will be divided into two parts. Focusing on editorial and art photography, Sugatsuke will discuss the magazine's pages and work by top photographers with the two editors-in-chief. They will compare the current state of Japanese photography with examples from overseas and consider how photographers can survive in the coming era and the future of photography. In the first part, Nakajima will use GINZA as a subject to give a lecture on the type of photography required for editorial and Japanese fashion media. The magazine has shifted from traditional fashion editorials that show "objects" to pages that show "worldviews," and has seen a sudden increase in circulation.

In the second part, starting at 8:30 pm, Ota will use "IMA" as an example to talk about the boundary between art and fashion photography. He will also examine the market for art photography, given that the magazine is published by Amana Holdings, which operates a stock photo business.

The fee is 500 yen (payment on the day). To register, please use the FASHION HEADLINE email form at fhinquiry@fashion-headline.com. Seating capacity: 40. Reservations are given priority.
