New Continuum Titanium Edition One
With the new Continuum, Romain Gauthier expands his horizons.

The Continuum's modern and youthful design reflects Romain's free-spirited creativity. This new watch is the culmination of the know-how acquired over more than 16 years of brand and manufacturing development.

This watch was born from the Freedom collection's philosophy: "Technical in essence, casual in style, and free in spirit." It represents true continuity in time and space and a vision of the future, expanding new territory for the brand.

During the creation of this watch, it was always clear to Romain that the case should harmonize with the movement, while remaining modern and refined. Furthermore, comfort, ergonomics, and the choice of materials were carefully considered during the design, resulting in all cases crafted from grade 5 titanium. The dials, also crafted from grade 5 titanium, lend consistency to the product and evoke the meaning of continuity.

Movement with Traditional Finger Bridges
Inspired by the finger bridge style, the movement design pays homage to the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux while incorporating a modern approach, demonstrating Romain's vision of a tradition in evolution.

For the launch of the Continuum, Romain Gauthier chose titanium for this first edition. Subtle red accents and an exquisite choice of colors and textures result in a timeless design. The "Edition One" is limited to 28 pieces worldwide. "1 OF 28" is engraved on the movement bridge.

A Unique Dial
As its name suggests, the Continuum is all about modernity and continuity. This applies not only to the movement design but also to the dial design. A closer look reveals off-center hour and minute hands.

The hour and minute indices are designed to taper slightly, but each one is of a different length. The small seconds subdial at 7 o'clock, marked in red, has 5-second increments that, like the indices, are of different lengths, tapering to the tip of the line.

Roman explains his intention for the dial's intricate appearance: "I wanted to create a dial that felt open and airy, rather than the 'closed circle' that is so common in watchmaking. The indexes on the dial are extended lines that gradually taper towards the axis, eventually becoming almost invisible dots. This emphasizes the idea of 'sustainability.'"

Super-LumiNova-coated hands and indexes ensure legibility in low light.
Hands
The three-dimensional hands are crafted from small blocks of 18K white gold (monobloc construction) and are coated with Super-LumiNova for excellent legibility.

Indices
Like the hands, the numerals and bar indexes are monobloc 18K white gold with three-dimensional applied indices. They feature distinctive chamfered edges and are coated with Super-LumiNova. The bar indexes also feature a subtle tapered design.

Dial
Like the case, it is crafted from natural titanium, sandblasted, and coated with a special UV-protective coating.

<About the Eye-Catching Case and Strap>

Bezel
The titanium bezel surrounding the dial features an eye-catching geometric profile, a first for a Romain Gauthier watch. The bezel is first machined into a round shape, creating a rounded surface. Six straight cuts are then made on the surface of the bezel, creating six flat facets. These polished facets reflect light, giving the bezel its lustrous shine, while the remaining satin-finished areas soften it. This same faceting is replicated around the sapphire crystal on the back of the watch.

Caseband and Lugs
Between the bezel and caseback, the one-piece caseband and lugs are crafted geometrically, incorporating satin and polished finishes, creating a beautiful, expertly crafted form.

Strap and Buckle
The rubber strap with a titanium pin buckle is shaped to fit the rounded caseband and angled lugs, creating a natural extension of the case.

Crown
And, not a first for Roman, the winding and time-setting crown is located at 2 o'clock, providing ample space for unobstructed wrist movement. A rubber band on the crown facilitates manual winding and adds a touch of color to the watch.

<A Clever Stop-Seconds Mechanism with a Snail Cam>

Roman incorporated a stop-seconds mechanism into the Continuum to accurately set the time. Like many other stop-seconds mechanisms, it brakes the Continuum's balance wheel when the crown is pulled. However, Roman chose to use a snail cam rather than a straight or L-shaped stop lever to stop the movement. This mechanism serves two purposes: First, when the crown is pulled, the snail cam comes into contact with the balance wheel, stopping its movement. The next time the crown is pushed back, the snail cam will rotate from its stopped position, and its gradually widening shape will help the balance wheel to resume its momentum as it rotates.

Close friends of the brand will know that Roman has used the unique shape of the snail cam in previous designs: yes, as seen in the acclaimed Logical One.

The intricate mechanism is visible through the case back.

<Design and Decoration Meet Modernity in an In-House Movement>

The themes of modernity and sustainability, carried over into this manual-winding in-house movement, are beautifully displayed through the caseback display.

The focal point is the finger bridge, a classic example of watchmaking history in Roman's native Vallée de Joux, but reinterpreted in this watch in a contemporary way. Each of these bridges is horizontally structured, creating a "stepped" shape. This effect not only gives the movement a sense of volume and depth, but also gives the impression that the bridges literally flow seamlessly over the gears and balance.

Like the case and dial, the bridges are crafted from lightweight grade 5 natural titanium and feature various finishes that allow for contrasting tones and textures. The outer edges of each bridge are characterized by double chamfers, while the flat surfaces of the bridges and the ruby are raised and finished with a hairline finish. The inside of this rim has been hand-engraved by the hand-finishing specialists in the Romain Gauthier workshop using a special hand-engraving technique, resulting in a unique texture with numerous small depressions. The main plate of the movement, located below the bridge, has been frosted by hand.

The spokes, in the form of connected rings, are a Romain Gauthier signature. They are meticulously bevelled.
The striking decoration is not limited to the bridges and main plate. The gears and ratchet wheels, with their trademark Roman spokes formed by connected beveled rings, are decorated with circular graining, while the click, snail cam, and S-groove screws, another Roman signature, are beautifully polished. The barrel cover, which houses the mainspring, is also decorated with exquisite snailing.

The Continuum regulator features typical Romain Gauthier features: a slightly curved balance wheel, an eccentricity compensation screw with minute graduations, and a triangular pallet for maximum rigidity.

Romain Gauthier
Founded in 2005, Romain Gauthier is a luxury watch brand based in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland, led by its passionate founder, Romain Gauthier. Romain Gauthier, founder of the brand, grew up in the picturesque Vallée de Joux, the heart of Swiss fine watchmaking. He combined the know-how he developed through his studies and work with an uncompromising commitment to Haute Horlogerie to create exceptional timepieces.
His work is recognized for its eye-catching design, innovative in-house movements and the highest level of hand-finishing.

Romain Gauthier, founder of the brand
Founder of the brand
Romain Gauthier was born in 1975 in the Vallée de Joux, the birthplace of Swiss fine watchmaking. It was here that he developed his passion for traditional Haute Horlogerie, his training as a mechanic and engineer and his deep understanding of design.

After studying precision engineering at a technical college, Roman qualified as a precision machinery designer in 1997. A year later, he began working as a machine programmer and operator at a watch components manufacturer, helping to transform the company into one of the best-performing facilities in Europe.

Determined to build not only watches but also his own luxury watch brand from scratch, Roman earned an MBA in 2002, with his final thesis being a business plan for starting his own watch company.

After three years of working privately on his own watches, he launched the Romain Gauthier brand in 2005 and presented his first creation, the Prestige HM, at Baselworld 2007. This was followed by the Prestige HMS (2010), Logical One (2013), Logical One Secret (2014), Insight Micro-Rotor (2017), Insight Micro-Rotor Lady (2018), Insight Micro-Rotor Skeleton (2020), and Continuum (2021). These creations include everything from refined traditional timepieces to contemporary casual creations and exquisite Objets d'Art, all equipped with exquisitely finished in-house movements.

In 2013, Romain Gauthier's Logical One won the Grand Prix de Watchmaking in Geneva, the Oscars of the watch industry, in the Men's Complication category.

Romain Gauthier's In-House Workshop
Much of the production capacity for fine Romain Gauthier watches comes from the workshop that Romain has steadily built up in Le Saint-Imier, Switzerland. The factory combines highly skilled artisans and time-honored tools with talented technicians and experts. This allows Romain Gauthier to design, manufacture, decorate, assemble, and adjust the in-house movements for its watches, as well as create Grand Feu enamel dials in its own kilns.
