
Actor Jack Nicholson was born on April 22, 1937, in New Jersey, USA. After graduating from high school, he studied at the Actors Studio and moved to Hollywood. To earn a living, he joined MGM and worked in the animation department. His film debut was in 1958's "Cry Baby Killers," which caught the eye of director Roger Corman. He subsequently worked on film productions under Corman and steadily built his acting career. In 1969, he appeared in the film "Easy Rider" at the invitation of Dennis Hopper, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and he rose to fame. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" in 1975, joining the ranks of Oscar-winning actors. He subsequently became a regular at the Academy Awards, receiving numerous nominations for his work, winning Best Supporting Actor for "Terms of Endearment" (1983) and again for "As Good as It Gets" (1997).
He has also appeared in Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" (1980), "Batman" in which he played Batman's nemesis the Joker, "A Few Good Men" (1992) starring Tom Cruise, and "The Departed," which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. He is highly regarded as an actor, having been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.
