MODECO, a brand that makes bags from discarded materials with the theme of "breathing new life into discarded materials," has launched a new brand called "ReCrafted" to produce items upcycled from used Patagonia products.
As the first project, they will release a tote bag made from used fishing waders collected by Patagonia Japan through Patagonia's environmental conservation activity, the Common Reds Partnership Program, and recycled car seat belts.
The fishing waders were chosen as the material because of their high abrasion resistance and waterproofness, which are designed for use in harsh outdoor conditions. The bag will be priced at 20,000 yen. The products will be sold at pop-up shops open at Shinjuku Takashimaya from April 9th to 22nd, at Tokyu Hands Nagoya from April 16th to 22nd, and at Daimaru Kyoto from April 23rd to May 6th, as well as at Modeco retailers and Patagonia Japan's directly managed stores.
Modeco will also participate in the "1% for the Planet" project for its Recrafted brand, a network founded by Patagonia and currently consisting of 1,100 companies worldwide, and will donate 1% of the brand's sales to non-profit organizations working to protect the health of the planet. Modeco is also considering expanding the Recrafted series in the future to include upcycling other sporting goods.
