The Tokyo Photographic Art Museum's TOP Collection. Focusing on the "Heisei" era theme, a series of works by nine artists including Masashi Sanai and Takashi Homma.

May 10, 2017

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum's comprehensive opening, the TOP Collection, "Here and Now—Scrolling Through the Heisei Era, Spring," will be held from May 13th to July 9th.
The TOP Collection is an exhibition series that showcases works from the museum's collection of over 34,000 works each year, focusing on a common theme over three periods: spring, summer, and winter. This first exhibition since the museum's reopening will be themed around the Heisei era.
The exhibition focuses on work series by nine photographers who represent the Heisei era: Masashi Sanai, Takashi Homma, Kyoji Takahashi, Tomoki Imai, Taiji Matsue, Takashi Yasumura, Hanayo, Sakiko Nomura, and Keiko Sasaoka. It explores the nature of the Heisei era through each photographer's expression of the meaning of "being here and now."

From 4pm on the first and third Fridays of the exhibition, gallery talks by the exhibition curator will be held. In addition, from 10:30am to 12:30pm on May 28th and June 4th, there will be an "Art Appreciation Workshop with Visually Impaired People" (participation fee: 500 yen), a workshop in which people with or without disabilities can appreciate art through conversation. Furthermore, from 10:30am to 12:30pm on June 25th and July 2nd, a related event called "Let's Look Carefully and Create!" will be held for elementary school students and their parents (participation fee: 800 yen), where they can talk about and view the images in the exhibited works, and then try their hand at simple art in the darkroom.
