Classic Ko, a maki-e jewelry brand from Yamanaka, Ishikawa, will hold an exhibition from May 15th to 21st at Showcase (Spiral, 1st floor) in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo.
Classic Ko is a jewelry brand developed by Oshita Kosen Studio, which has been producing and passing down maki-e, a uniquely Japanese technique that has developed since the Nara period, for over 120 years since its founding in 1894. Classic Ko utilizes the decorative techniques of maki-e and lacquerware while expressing a unique blend of beauty that has been passed down with modern sensibilities.
The exhibition, themed "Forest of Decoration," will showcase earrings, necklaces, brooches, and other pieces individually crafted by artisans using maki-e techniques that use powdered metals such as gold and silver, as well as colored powders, and mother-of-pearl inlay, which is inlaid with cut-through pieces of luminous shell, along with the background to each piece.
