The Fondation Louis Vuitton in the Bois de Boulogne, Paris, is currently hosting the exhibition "Art / Africa, le nouvel atelier." The exhibition is divided into three sections: "The Insiders," "Being There," and "Fondation Louis Vuitton," each showcasing the latest works by African artists from sub-Saharan Africa to South Africa through different perspectives. "The Insiders" focuses on works from 1989 to 2009 from the unparalleled collection of Jean Pigozzi, the Italian investor and world's largest collector of contemporary African art, and presents works by 15 artists who represent the collection. "Being There" presents contemporary South African art that critically returns to the country's past, highlighting its history of colonization in particular, and arranges the artists by their birth decade.
And at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, under the theme of "Africa in the Collection," they are exhibiting works by internationally active artists such as Zanele Muholi, a South African who won the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography, and Cheri Samba, who created the Paris edition of Louis Vuitton's "Travel Book" collection.
The exhibition runs until August 28th. During the period until July 7th, a complex event themed around music, film, poetry, and more is also scheduled to be held.
