ICC's "Open Space" exhibition: Thinking about the future 20 years from now through media art

May 20, 2017

The NTT InterCommunication Center (ICC) in Hatsudai, Tokyo, will be holding the "Open Space 2017: Re-Imagining the Future" exhibition from May 27th to March 11th, 2018.

Since its launch in 2006, the "Open Space" exhibition has changed its contents each year, and has featured free admission to exhibits of media art, a mini-theater, and the video archive "HIVE." Marking the 20th anniversary of the center's opening, this year's 12th edition will feature a variety of programs, including exhibitions of works by artists, talks, lectures, symposiums, and workshops, all with the theme of looking back on the past and rethinking and re-creating the future 20 years from now. The exhibited artists and works include "The Latent Future," a new work by Naoyuki Tokui and Shoya Dozono (Qosmo), "Our Muse," a new work by evala [See by your ears], "Big Eared Fox" (2013-14), a collaborative work with Akio Suzuki, Sgwen Chan's "Drawing Operations Unit" (2015), and Gregory Barsamian's "Juggler" (1997). Other planned events include research and development corners by Shohei Matsukawa Laboratory at Keio University, SBC Joint Research Group, and archiroid, and a research and development corner by Hajime Narukawa Laboratory at Keio University, as well as "Emergencies!", a corner introducing up-and-coming artists with promising future prospects.
