Professor Masamichi Katayama's new book reveals turning points in the lives of Momoiro Clover Z, Rhizomatiks' Daito Manabe, and others [NADiff Recommended Book]

May 11, 2017

Our Thursday series features must-read books from each branch of NADiff, the art bookshop. This week's book is "Professor Katayama Masamichi's How to Create the Jobs of the Future." It's introduced by Gallery 5, a branch in Shinjuku, Tokyo (3-20-2 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo Opera City Tower, 3F).

■ "Professor Katayama Masamichi's How to Create the Jobs of the Future"

This is the third in a series documenting lectures given by internationally renowned interior designer Katayama Masamichi at Musashino Art University. Titled "instigator," the lectures are presented in a talk show format, hosted and hosted by Professor Katayama, and feature leading industry figures. Despite the limited number of students at the art university, the lectures are renowned for their popularity, with around 500 students attending each session. The book features five guests: Momoiro Clover Z, Kundo Koyama, Daito Manabe (Rhizomatiks), EXILE HIRO, and Hitoshi Ohne. Each guest touches on their student days and turning points in life, conveying the potential and diversity of "work" itself, unconventional to the so-called "occupation." It's also a lecture transcript packed with passionate messages from an agitator to the younger generation. Coinciding with the publication of this book is the "Masamichi Katayama Encyclopedia Exhibition," held at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery, showcasing Katayama's diverse collection, ranging from junk to contemporary art. This exhibition, which can be considered the culmination of his work as a collector, offers a glimpse into the essence of his work and creativity. I highly recommend this book and the exhibition.
