Next year, 2017, marks the 100th anniversary of jazz records. To celebrate, "Jazz Week: A Life with Jazz" will be held on each floor of the main and new buildings of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store from September 28th to October 11th. The event will feature jazz-themed events and merchandise, including an exhibition of original artwork from the jazz-themed manga "BLUE GIANT." During the same period, the store will also be hosting a variety of events in the central hall on the first floor of the main building, allowing visitors to enjoy jazz with all five senses. On the 28th, jazz violinist Naoko Terai will perform live jazz concerts, starting at 12:30 PM, followed by a free concert on October 1st featuring trumpeter Takuya Kuroda, the first Japanese to sign with the Blue Note label. For a limited time, whiskey will be available in the central hall, allowing visitors to enjoy live music while enjoying sophisticated tastings. In addition, an original artwork exhibition for "BLUE GIANT," the jazz-themed manga that won third place in the 2016 Manga Taisho Awards, will be held at the Hajimari Cafe on the 7th floor of the main building. A talk show with author Shinichi Ishizuka will also be held on October 2nd at 12:30 PM. The event will also feature plastic wind instruments for beginners, mini pianos for children, and jazz scores. For those who prefer to experience the jazz atmosphere visually, Lladró will also be offering "Let's Swing" ornaments (290,000 yen), featuring expressively rendered jazz musicians and instruments. Furthermore, a special blend of cool and modern jazz, created by Miyakoshi, president of Miyakoshiya Coffee, a jazz lover, will be available exclusively at Isetan Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi. Other suggested attire for jazz performances includes jacket styles, dressy outfits, and denim kimonos, which symbolize a blend of Japanese and Western elements.
