Since April 2021, Isetan Mitsukoshi has been working on sustainability activities under the slogan "think good," which embodies the idea that "it starts with using your imagination and thinking seriously" towards a colorful and prosperous future.
Following the campaign in April, this second installment is themed "connecting to the next generation," and will focus on the preservation of culture and tradition, support for production areas and creators, and the sensibilities and skills of young people. Through the lens of Isetan Mitsukoshi, the second installment will introduce "choices" for a future that leads to a better everyday life at three stores in the Tokyo metropolitan area and on the Isetan Mitsukoshi online store. Specifically, the event will introduce around 100 projects that bring together various people, including a young swordsmith in his 40s who has been given "certification without examination," a recognition of his skills as a swordsmith in the world of swords; the art activities of an organization that promotes the talents and potential of people with intellectual disabilities to the world; small-sized bento lunches and side dishes that use "Omni Meat," a new plant-based protein that can be used as a meat substitute; honey harvested from bees kept on the rooftop of an affiliated building of the Isetan Shinjuku store; and the first unveiling of honey gourmet dishes.

Although new talent is constantly knocking on the door, the world of swords is a tough one where only a few survive. In this world, Takami Kunikazu is a young swordsmith who, at just 47 years old, has been certified as a swordsmith without examination. Swords that are said to clear the mind and become more refined just by holding them will be exhibited for the first time in an art gallery.

■KORI-SHOW PROJECT x YAMATO Kurume Kasuri patterns created by AI

The Korishou Project combines traditional handcraftsmanship with future technology to propose "lifestyle of the future." This time, they've collaborated with Yamato on "kimono," using AI to load the vast number of Kurume Kasuri patterns that have been produced in the past, creating an unprecedented "unknown Kurume Kasuri." The patterns created by AI are woven by local artisans, and the resulting bolts of fabric are used to make custom kimonos, shirts, dresses, and more.

To date, they have canned around 50 types of fish, from familiar fish such as sardines and mackerel to more unusual fish such as grouper and dream scorpionfish. Now you can easily enjoy lesser-known fish that were previously only available at the source, from the comfort of your own home.

"think good" and Isetan Mitsukoshi's initiatives

Isetan Mitsukoshi will implement "think good" initiatives by focusing on three areas: 1. Products, 2. Services, and 3. Communication. Specifically, the company will engage in sustainability activities through a sustainable product lineup to support local production areas and protect the environment, promoting the 4Rs for resource circulation, and communicating technology and sensibilities for cultural inheritance.
