HOMME PLISSE ISSEY MIYAKE, created by Issey Miyake and his Reality Lab team, held its first exhibition at the Issey Miyake headquarters in Shibuya, Tokyo, for the 2015 Spring/Summer season.
The brand first appeared in July last year as original costumes for the Aomori University Men's Rhythmic Gymnastics Team, a special performance planned by Issey Miyake and held at the Yoyogi National Stadium Second Gymnasium in Shibuya, Tokyo. The exhibition displayed the latest 2015 Spring/Summer collection as well as the 2014-2015 Autumn/Winter collection announced at the preview. An image video for the 2014-2015 Autumn/Winter collection was also screened.
With roots in the development of pleats by Issey Miyake, HOMME PLISSE ISSEY MIYAKE is a brand that proposes new everyday wear for modern men. The collection features designs that are lightweight, easy to move in, easy to care for, and portable, thanks to the use of sweat-wicking, quick-drying materials and pleating techniques applied after sewing.
The SS15 collection proposes spring/summer outfits designed to enhance the modern man's lifestyle. The collection explores new materials suited to the season, including mesh pleats, a new pleat style called "smooth pleats" that is cool and breathable while also being stain-resistant thanks to a stain-resistant treatment applied to the thread itself, and water-repellent fabrics.
In addition to the basic colors of black, navy, charcoal gray, and light gray, monthly colors are inspired by nature, including sea green and blue, sand beige representing the beach, orange representing the sunset, and a dark green reminiscent of an iguana. The prints are varied, including graphic patterns featuring animal motifs like iguanas, birds, and hawks, edgy designs with transfer prints on only the peaks of the pleats, and prints on flat box pleats.
The range has expanded even further with the introduction of new items such as above-the-knee shorts, perfect for vacation, in addition to tailored jackets, blousons, and zip-up hoodies.
Meanwhile, for the 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collection, which is already available in stores, the brand has expanded on its approach to creating clothes that emphasize dialogue with the body, continuing on from the original costumes worn by the Aomori University Men's Rhythmic Gymnastics Club. Focusing on the Brazilian martial art of capoeira, the brand has researched clothing that is stress-free even when performing intense movements such as unique footwork and somersaults, and expresses the wild strength of African body painting through prints and the jagged, ultrasonically cut details of the pants.
