Starting this fall/winter, ISSEY MIYAKE INC. will launch a new brand, HOMME PLISSE ISSEY MIYAKE, created by Issey Miyake and the Reality Lab. team, which offers everyday wear for the modern man.
Homme Plissé Issey Miyake is based on three concepts: "PLEATS," the pleating process that Issey Miyake has developed over more than 20 years, which provides functionality such as stretch; "Clothing as a Product," created through design and engineering; and "PRESENT," a flexible, modern everyday wear ("PRESENT") that blends into various life scenes.
The fabric has pleats arranged at regular intervals so that it does not stick to the skin, and uses a "product pleating" technique that is applied after sewing. The fabrics are made with nylon and polypropylene, which have excellent moisture absorption and quick-drying properties, and are thick textiles with men in mind.
The collection will start with seven tops and three bottoms in four colors: light gray, dark gray, blue, and black, with khaki and navy also planned. The designs are basic, with zip-up blousons and shorts, and can be paired with casual styles like denim or office styles like jackets. In addition to this basic series featuring full pleats, the collection also includes a woven fabric series, such as denim jackets and accordion-pleated coats, as well as underwear like inner shirts and socks, stoles, and bags. To commemorate the launch of the brand, a T-shirt featuring the chants "Ganba," "Ikuzo," and "Fight," used in the motion graphics of Nakamura Yugo's performance by the Aomori University Men's Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, has also been released. The flagship store is located on the basement floor of the new shop "REALITY LAB. ISSEY MIYAKE," which opened on November 11th at From First in Aoyama, Tokyo (5-3-10 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo), and from November 14th will also be available at three other stores: the first floor of Shibuya Parco Part 1, ELTTOB TEP ISSEY MIYAKE / GINZA (4-4-5 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), and ELTTOB TEP ISSEY MIYAKE / SEMBA (4-11-28 Minami-Senba, Chuo-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture). Miyake's pleated clothing was first shown at the "ISSEY MIYAKE" Paris Collection in 1988, and the women's line "PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE" was launched in 1993. Pleated designs have also been proposed for the men's "Issey Miyake Men," but the decision was made to develop it as a new brand in order to further strengthen and advance research and development of men's pleated clothing. At the special performance "Aomori University Men's Rhythmic Gymnastics Club" organized by Issey Miyake held in July this year, athletes and staff wore the brand's clothing ahead of schedule. The brand logo was designed by art director Katsumi Asaba, and the image visuals were photographed by photographer Francis Giacobetti.
