Ayano Omoto (Nocchi), a member of the techno pop unit Perfume, was born on September 20, 1988, in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture. She was a member of the first class of Actors School Hiroshima and a member of the idol unit Happy Baby while in elementary school. When Yuka Kawashima left the school's unit Perfume (then called "Pafu-mu") in 2001, she joined as the new member. In 2002, the group made their indie debut with their first Hiroshima-exclusive single, "OMAJINAI☆PERORI." After moving to Tokyo in 2003, they changed their name to Perfume. With Yasutaka Nakata as sound producer, they transformed their music into techno pop. This popularity led to their first solo concert in 2004 and the launch of radio programs such as "Perfume Planet" on FM Fukuoka. Among young idol units, they gradually gained attention as a "near-future techno pop unit." In 2005, Perfume made their major label debut with "Linear Motor Girl." In 2007, they released the single "Polyrhythm." It was used as the theme song for a commercial for the Public Advertising Council, bringing the group to widespread recognition. It ranked fourth on the Oricon Daily Singles Chart. They made an unprecedented appearance at Summer Sonic, and the following year, they made their debut at the NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen. In 2008, they reached number one on the Oricon Daily Chart with their single "Love the World." Their album "Baby Cruising Love/Macaroni" went gold, and their album "GAME" won the Japan Record Award for Best Album. Perfume established themselves as a top idol group. They also began appearing regularly on the Nippon Television network's "HAPPY!" program. They continued to appear regularly on numerous other programs. At their 2010 Tokyo Dome concert, they wore outfits by Junya Suzuki. In the music videos for the singles "Unnatural Girl/Naturally in Love" and "Hey," the group wears NATURAL BEAUTY BASIC, while appearing on the CD jacket for "Hey" in Marimekko.
In 2012, Perfume embarked on their "1st World Tour," visiting Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea, achieving great success. The following year, Perfume's "2nd World Tour" visited three European countries, again drawing sold-out crowds.
The performances at these shows, performed by the creative collective Rhizomatiks, also drew much attention. They have received international acclaim, winning the Grand Prize at the 16th Japan Media Arts Festival (2012) and being invited to the 60th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. In 2013, the "Rhizomatiks inspired by Perfume" exhibition was held at Shinjuku Opera City. The media production techniques used in Perfume's live performances were exhibited, drawing attention with their LED-lit costumes and projection mapping on their costumes. Also, at that year's Red and White Song Battle, they appeared wearing original ADEAM costumes designed by designer Hanako Maeda. Projection mapping was used on top of their costumes, resulting in them being selected as the most memorable artist at the event.
In 2013, Tiffany & Co. featured Perfume as a model for their Tiffany Atlas fashion story. They were featured in Vogue Japan wearing Tiffany designs, and a teaser video was also released.
In addition, with the release of their album "LEVEL3 (Bonus Edition)," which will be available on iTunes and other platforms from October 7th and released on CD at the end of October, they will also make their US debut with the long-established EDM label Astralwerks.
