Kyoto exhibition held at Ginza Mitsukoshi, Nakamura Tokichi flagship store, Yayoi, etc. make their first appearance in Tokyo

Sep 2, 2014

For one week from September 3rd to 9th, the Ginza Mitsukoshi 8th floor event space will host the "GINZA Kyoto Exhibition," showcasing Kyoto's gourmet food and miscellaneous goods.

The exhibition will feature a selection of sweets and miscellaneous goods, some of which will be making their first appearance in Tokyo, showcasing "modern Kyoto," where tradition is combined with new sensibilities. From popular breads to decorative cushion covers, visitors can fully experience the charms of Kyoto.

A cafe will also be open within the venue, allowing visitors to enjoy freshly baked goods on the spot. If you're visiting the venue at lunchtime or dinnertime, we highly recommend the "Ojako Cream Pasta" (with baguette and salad, 1,500 yen) at "Yayoi Cafe," run by "Yayoi," a restaurant famous for its dried baby sardines and sansho pepper, in a detached building at its Gion flagship store. If you love sweets, we recommend the Namacha Jelly (Matcha) Set (1,150 yen, includes original blend Nakamura tea) at Nakamura Tokichi Honten Cafe, where you can enjoy the flavors of Nakamura Tokichi Honten, a Kyoto tea merchant with a 160-year history, or the coffee (from 800 yen) at FACTORY KAFE Kosen, where you can enjoy coffee from Ooya Coffee Roastery. Both stores are opening in Tokyo for the first time, so don't miss this rare opportunity to try them.

If you want to experience the excitement of having food prepared right before your eyes, head to the demonstration venue where you can taste the hearty roast beef and seasonal vegetable sandwich (2,200 yen) at Dice Deli & Sandwich, a popular deli in Karasuma Oike. If you'd like to share some treats with friends, we recommend the Meister Cheesecake (1,483 yen) from Rhone, a long-established shop founded in 1968, or the Epulve Roll (1,100 yen), which took about three years to perfect. Both shops are notable for being the first to open in Tokyo. Sweet tooths will also want to try the Yuba Mousse (400 yen), a new dessert with a rich yuba flavor created in collaboration with Chef Yasuda of the Hyatt Regency Kyoto's pastry shop and the 129-year-old Yubasho. Of course, even non-food items are full of Kyoto charm. The gorgeous cushion cover (18,600 yen) by Hosoo, a company founded in Nishijin, Kyoto, is sure to elevate any room. On the first day of the event, September 3rd, a "Kyoto Talk" will be held at the Ginza Terrace on the 9th floor of the store by actor Arata Iura, who is currently serving as a cultural ambassador for the Kyoto National Museum. Photographs of Kyoto taken by Iura himself will also be on display, which can be enjoyed along with the talk.
