Ball held at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi

Sep 4, 2014

From September 3rd to 5th, the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store will be hosting a ballroom dance performance by professional dancers in the central hall on the first floor of the main building. Admission is free.
As part of the store's ongoing British Fair (held until the 8th in the main building and the event hall on the 7th floor of the new building), the store is hosting the "Mitsukoshi Grand Ball" to allow shoppers to appreciate the culture of ballroom dance, which originated in the UK. Performances will include couples who have achieved top-level success in the UK, the birthplace of ballroom dance, as well as performances by top Japanese dancers and young dancers.
On the first day of the event, professional dancers Osamu Kaiho and Mari Kaiho performed a ballroom dance, and professional dancers Shuji Senda and Junko Oguma performed a Latin American dance. The audience was thrilled by their graceful performances. After the performance, a simple dance lesson was held, easy enough for beginners to understand, where shoppers in attendance received one-on-one instruction on dance techniques from professional dancers. After performing Latin dance, Oguma commented, "Even those who aren't used to dancing can enter the fun world of ballroom dancing with a little courage."

On September 4th, Suzuki Ichiro and Suzuki Ayumi performed ballroom dance, and Yabe Yukihide and Yabe Hiroko performed Latin dance. On the final day, September 5th (from 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM), performances are scheduled for promising young dancers in the dance industry (Hashimoto Yu and Otsuka Tomoko, Adachi Yuichi and Sakurai Yuko, Matsuzaki Yuutaro and Horikawa Makoto, and Shindo Hironobu and Okuhara Reimi).

After the dancers' performances, a special sale for ballet and dance goods retailer Chacott will be held in the central hall of the store. In addition to selling "Running High Heels" (19,000 yen), which were created in collaboration between Chacott and sports stretching trainer Tadashi Kaneko, the store also sells standard and Latin dresses and dance shoes.
