"MONO JAPAN - Japanese Craft & Design," an exhibition and sale featuring Japanese craft and design products, will be held at the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam from February 4th to 7th.
The Netherlands is known for its lifestyle-conscious approach, including interior and product design. The exhibition will be held in a guest room designed by renowned Dutch designers at the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy, a cultural hub in the capital Amsterdam that attracts creators from around the world. The exhibition will showcase a wide variety of products, from ceramics, textiles, cutlery, washi paper, furniture, and lacquerware based on traditional Japanese crafts to tea, sake, and Japanese sweets. This will provide an opportunity for not only professional buyers and experts but also the discerning Amsterdam public to become familiar with Japanese products. Unlike typical exhibitions, exhibited items will be available for purchase on the spot. From February 5th to 7th, six workshops will be held to introduce Japanese craft techniques, including "Dutch Plant-Dyed Furoshiki" by Takarajima Dyeing, "Sharpener" by Coelacanth Shokudo, "Nagasaki Kite Making" by List:, "The History of Fragrance Culture and Fragrance Experience & Sachet Making" by Hyogo Prefecture Incense Cooperative, "Life with Tea" by Oyama Tea Plantation, and "Straw Weaving Workshop" by Yamagata. Other lectures exploring the future of crafts while preserving traditional techniques include "MacSlow: The New Reality of Ceramics" by European Ceramic Work Centre director Ranti Chan, "How to Appreciate Japanese Swords" by Studio Shikumi representative Kawachi Shinpei, "About Bizen Ware" by Bizen ware artist Mori Ichiro, and the "2016/arita japan project" by designers Yanagihara Teruhiro and Stefan Scholten.
