Ferragamo unravels the history of silk's introduction to Japan through silk items. A limited-time store opens at Shinjuku Isetan.

Feb 10, 2016

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Japan, Salvatore Ferragamo will open a limited-time store, "THE SILK ROAD / Isetan Exclusive Collection," on the fourth floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building from February 15th to March 1st. The store will liken the encounter between East and West to the Silk Road traveled by Venetian merchant Marco Polo, and unravel the history of silk's arrival in Japan through silk items from the Isetan Exclusive Collection. The story of the mysterious journey, which began in Venice and passed through Samarkand, Istanbul, and Tajikistan before reaching the Forbidden City in Beijing, is depicted through a beautiful collection of meticulously crafted silk scarves and luxuriously crafted scarf-inspired apparel. The venue will be decorated with a special set evoking the majestic and glittering image of the Silk Road. The silk items will be available worldwide for the first time, and include a scarf depicting places visited by Marco Polo (¥43,000), a scarf depicting circus tents with animals like horses and elephants (¥31,000), and a scarf featuring an Oriental carpet with camels scattered throughout (¥43,000). Other items include scarves, stoles, shawls, and apparel featuring Ferragamo's signature floral and ornamental prints, further enhancing the fairytale-like atmosphere. To celebrate the release of this exclusive collection, fashion director Yoshimasa Hoshiba, active on television, in magazines, and on the web, will be in attendance on the 21st. He will offer fashion advice using silk products in a talk show, which will be held twice, from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM and from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM, at the Center Park on the 4th floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building (free admission, no advance reservations required).
