me ISSEY MIYAKE's new store, "me ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA" (4-21-24 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo), will open in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo on March 3rd.
The store's spatial design was handled by product designer Naoto Fukasawa. He commented on the store design, "The cornerless walls create an ambient space enveloped in light and air. I designed it so that it surrounds the body, enveloping the me clothes."
The three-floor store will carry the full lineup of me ISSEY MIYAKE items. It will also carry "LOLLY ACCESSORY," colorful and simple rings and bangles handcrafted in the same process as eyeglasses are made in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, known as a glasses-producing region. To celebrate the opening, the iconic stretch pleated T-shirts (long-sleeved high-neck 16,000 yen, short-sleeved crew-neck 13,500 yen) will be available in exclusive color variations. The gallery on the second floor will also feature a special exhibition of Issey Miyake's new series, "IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE," featuring the work of graphic designer Ikko Tanaka. The brand logo, designed by Naoto Fukasawa, also celebrates the opening. "The combination of 'me' and 'ISSEY MIYAKE' creates a slightly cute atmosphere, while remaining unpretentious," Fukasawa said. "The word 'me' doesn't mean self-assertion, but rather a subdued, pure, and cute feel. I believe simplicity is the most powerful form of beauty." Starting with me ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA, the logo will be used at me ISSEY MIYAKE stores nationwide from Fall/Winter 2016.
