ISSEY MIYAKE will launch a new series, "IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE," on February 3rd, featuring the work of graphic designer Ikko Tanaka. The series was created to express gratitude and respect for the inspiration he received from the artist during their close relationship since meeting in the 1960s. Miyake focused on Tanaka's work, faithfully recreating its size and color, while aiming to create garments that exude a vibrant energy that amplifies the appeal of Tanaka's work when worn, rather than simply treating the artwork as a design. For this first collection, the designer selected three of Tanaka's masterpieces as motifs: "Nihon Buyo" (1981), "Sharaku 200 Years" (1995), and "Variations of Bold Symbols" (1992). The collection proposes clothing as a form of communication that can bring people together during a modern tea ceremony. "NIHON BUYO," based on the "Nihon Buyo" poster for a Japanese dance performance held at the University of California, and "SHARAKU," based on "Sharaku 200 Years," featured in the exhibition commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Toshusai Sharaku, will feature a coat (52,000 yen), a dress (36,000 yen), and a bag (47,000 yen). Also available: "FUTOI KIGO," based on the "Variations of Bold Symbols" graphic art motif, will feature a coat (48,000 yen) in two colors, a dress (32,000 yen) and a shirt (25,000 yen) in four colors. Also available: "GETA SANDAL" shoes (40,000 yen) in two colors. Available at PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA, ROPPONGI, TOKYO SKYTREE, Isetan Shinjuku Main Store (for a limited time on February 3rd), Narita Airport Terminal 1, ISSEY MIYAKE MARUNOUCHI, ELTTOB TEP ISSEY MIYAKE / GINZA, SEMBA, and the WEB STORE. In addition, a new IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE special website (www.isseymiyake.com/ikkotanaka) has been launched today.
